On day four of our RV adventure, we gathered our nerves and did the highest cliff jump in the world. The night before, we drove back to Queenstown from Milford Sound Deep Water Basin and stayed at Queenstown Lakeview Holiday Park for the night. The RV park has nice facilities and is a short five-minute walk from downtown.
Our tour was at 9:30 a.m. with Shotover Canyon Swing — whose office is located just in the center of town. Their whole outfit is topnotch. The staff was energetic, flexible and hilarious. We felt comfortable and entertained every step of the way.
Our guide drove us 15 minutes from the office to the actual swing. The canyon with ice blue water below was just stunning. You couldn’t pick a more picturesque spot for some adrenaline-fueled adventure.
The cliff swing is 109 meters tall. When you go off the edge of the platform, you fall 60 meters vertically before swinging outward 200 meters. The company has creatively concocted 70+ different ways to fling yourself off this cliff. Some of the more extreme include doing handstands and flips, going head first, holding on to a rope until you finally give out and let go, and falling backwards while strapped to an actual chair.

If you’ve got a passion for the extreme, you need to add Shotover Canyon Swing to your New Zealand itinerary!
