You can’t visit the South Island of New Zealand without stopping by the town of Wanaka. The activities here are endless, the vistas are just insane, and the town is super vibey. We’re seriously considering moving here in a few years — totally not exaggerating. One place in Wanaka that genuinely captured our hearts was Rippon Vineyard.
Hands down, it’s the most beautiful winery we’ve ever been to. The cellar door and Rippon Hall sit atop a hill overlooking the plantation and Lake Wanaka below — it is just magnificent. We spent some time walking around the grounds and soaking up the views before entering the cellar door for our scheduled tasting.
*Tip: While the cellar door is open for walk-ins nearly all year round, we recommend contacting Leslie at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a private tasting. It was a beautifully unique and enlightening experience and well worth the 25 USD.
Leslie met us and led us into the hall where the wines and glasses waited for us by the most spectacular window I’ve ever seen. Clean, rustic, and charming, the hall is a breathtaking space. As we tasted, Leslie told us about Rippon: the terroir, the family, and the philosophy. Through biodynamic farming, traditional harvesting methods, and a fierce passion for the land, Rippon is clearly a special place to all who live and work there. We were truly impressed by how much the wines reflect the terroir and imbibe the character of the season.
