Destination: Cartagena, Colombia
Duration: 5 days
Best time to go: Cartagena is hot and humid all year round. However, the best time to go is during the dry season – December through March.
Best place to stay: Bastion Luxury Hotel. We highly recommend this hotel. The service was excellent. It’s centrally located in the walled city and is within walking distance to all the main attractions. We really enjoyed their breakfast (make sure to include it in your reservation) at their restaurant, El Gobernador By Rausch. We also had a chance to dine here for dinner, and it was amazing.
Best part of the trip: We really enjoyed walking around the walled city and taking in all the vivid colors. We also enjoyed touring the Rosario Islands. The islands are beautiful, the water is clear and warm, and the sunsets are breathtaking. Best thing we packed: Comfy shoes. If you stay within the walled city, you can spend hours walking around and taking in all of Cartagena’s culture. These shoes will also come in handy if you decide to trek up to the top of San Felipe fortress.
Best meal: During our tour of the Rosario Islands, we stopped at San Pedro De Majagua to relax by the beach and have lunch. The grilled Red Snapper was one of the best fresh fish dishes we’ve ever had.
Best drink: Sunset cocktails at Cafe Del Mar.
Best thing we brought home: Colombian coffee beans from Cafe Del Mural. We loved our experience here. The coffee is by far the best in town! It’s a hidden gem and isn’t your typical coffee shop. You can sample different styles while learning all about the coffee.
Best word to describe the trip: Colorful
